Exclusive: Leeds set price as Illan Meslier now wanted man – report

The Daily Mail claims that Leeds United will demand a price “in excess” of £20 million if they decide to sell Illan Meslier this summer.

The newspaper said that Marseille, a team in Ligue 1, was interested in the custodian this summer in its online version.

The report continues by stating that the Whites had already begun to consider possible successors.

Why Illan Meslier is someone Leeds United should aim to retain this summer

Meslier joined Leeds in 2020 after leaving FC Lorient, and he has been a constant in the team ever since.

The Frenchman remained with the West Yorkshire team and was one of their best players even after they were demoted to the Championship the previous season.

Of the 49 games he played, 21 of them resulted in clean sheets.

Leeds is in “no rush” to sell, despite rumours that the club is under some pressure to sell before June 30th because of the Red Bull group’s new investment [Leeds Live, June 21].

Furthermore, Leeds’ retention of Meslier may be crucial to their chances of promotion, given that Crystal Summerville appears to be leaving this summer [Ben Jacobs, June 24].

Though the Whites currently lack a young, viable replacement for the Frenchman in their ranks, they will have enough money in their war chest to locate a good choice to partner with Karl Darlow should moves be made for Summerville or Meslier.
