Excess of £20m” – Pundit makes Jacob Greaves prediction as Ipswich Town and Everton circle

KEY POINTS
Jacob Greaves of Hull City is attracting interest from Ipswich Town, but Everton is still the front-runner to sign the defender this summer.
Greaves’ future, according to Carlton Palmer, may be contingent upon Jarrad Branthwaite’s transfer from Everton to Manchester United.
Greaves, whose estimated worth is between £20 and £25 million, is reportedly being considered by teams like West Ham and Southampton.Carlton Palmer thinks Everton is still the frontrunner to recruit Jacob Greaves of Hull City this summer, despite interest from Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys are reportedly thinking about making a move for the centre back before they return to the Premier League, according to The Telegraph.

After the Suffolk team finished second in the Championship and were promoted to the top level, Kieran McKenna is trying to bolster his team.

Greaves’s performances for Hull last season won him a lot of praise and helped the squad finish seventh in the standings.

This has cast doubt on the defender’s future at the MKM Stadium as news surface that West Ham and Everton are also interested in signing him.

Jacob Greaves receives a transfer verdict from Carlton Palmer.

Carlton Palmer thinks that Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton, who is coveted by Manchester United, and the transfer scenario may have an impact on Greaves’ future.

In addition, he has estimated that the 23-year-old’s transfer fee might range from £20 to £25 million.

Palmer told Football League World, “As you can imagine, having been promoted to the Premier League, Ipswich Town have been linked with a whole host of players.”

It makes sense that they wish to bolster their team.

“Hull City center-back Jacob Greaves is one of the players they have been associated with.”

“He’s also been the subject of interest from Everton, Everton are waiting to see what happens with Branthwaite, Man United have made an offer believed to be around £35 million, Everton are holding out for as much as £90 million and are looking at a replacement.

“I don’t think they’ll get anywhere near the £90 million they’re asking for Branthwaite, but certainly Jacob Greaves has been outstanding for Hull.

“He’s a left-sided centre-back, Hull City will be looking in excess of £20m for the player.

“Hull have said he’s integral to what they’re looking to do, and push on and get promotion, but the chairman has said he will not stand in his way if his wish is to move on.

“It will be interesting to see this one, I’ll be very surprised to see if Jacob is still at Hull in pre-season, assuming Everton sell Branthwaite, I think he’s on his way to the Premier League, and he’s certainly got a bright future ahead of him.”

Having progressed through Hull’s academy system, Greaves has established himself as an essential member of the first team roster.

Last season, he made 43 appearances in the Championship, just missing out on a play-off spot for Liam Rosenior’s team.

Although the defender is under contract with the Tigers through the summer of 2026, he is currently drawing interest from the Premier League.

This provides the Yorkshire team with considerable negotiating power should Premier League teams make a move for him.

A reasonable estimate of Greaves’ worth is between £20 and £25 million.

Everton is expected to move for Greaves if Branthwaite is sold, although since Man United’s proposal for the player was turned down earlier this month, no progress has been made in that area.

The longer that goes on, the more likely it is that Ipswich will sign the player.

Even if the player would be a fantastic addition to McKenna’s squad, a sum of about £20 million will be too much for a recently promoted team like Ipswich.

If signed, he would undoubtedly increase the Tractor Boys’ defensive options, but because of his value to the team, Hull will want to maximise the proceeds from any possible transfer.
