Everton exit collapses after personal terms not agreed – The Athletic

The Athletic claims that Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s attempt to leave Everton for Newcastle United broke down because the striker could not agree on terms.

The news agency revealed on their website on June 29 that negotiations were on between the Magpies and Toffees regarding a trade deal that would have sent Yankuba Minteh to Goodison Park and Calvert-Lewin to St. James’ Park in two different moves to assist both teams with their PSR problems.

However, Newcastle withdrew from talks to scuttle both agreements [Alan Myers, June 24], and they cited their inability to come to a personal agreement with the 27-year-old striker as their rationale.

This summer, Everton should see some sales as multiple teams are interested in Amadou Onana, Calvert-Lewin, and Jarrad Branthwaite, who is desired by Manchester United.

Although the club is eager to stay onto Branthwaite, who they value at £70 million, a transfer for Onana is anticipated to be permitted if they receive a reasonable offer.

With Calvert-Lewin, though, things are different because they want to retain the striker and have offered him a new contract [Liverpool Echo, May 31]. However, he has just one year left on his contract and isn’t eager to sign an extension [Times, June 22].

Newcastle’s interest in the striker is obviously still alive [Luke Edwards, June 24], and West Ham and Brentford are rumoured to be keen in finalising a deal [Chronicle Live, June 25], so his departure may occur later in the transfer window.

Although the Toffees will have greater authority after the June 30th PSR deadline, their leverage will be limited due to his contract status, so things could change quickly.
