Dyche must now finally cash in on £25m Everton flop who earns more than Branthwaite – opinion

In the past, Everton Football Club has been known to make some very wise acquisitions. The Toffees’ summer of 2023–2024 was no different. They didn’t spend much, but they did make some intriguing additions that helped them avoid relegation the previous season—a task they succeeded in doing.

Last summer, they brought in two wingers on loan: Jack Harrison from Leeds United and Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal. Danjuma found it difficult to adjust at Goodison Park, but Harrison’s loan stint was so successful that he returned to the team for the 2024–2025 season on loan.

Additionally, they signed veteran campaigner Ashley Young from Aston Villa on a free transfer. Like Harrison, the former Manchester United star showed himself to be a true asset to the Toffees last season and was rewarded with a new contract for the next campaign.

Last summer, Everton also added two center-forwards to their roster. Youssef Chermiti, a young player who signed from Sporting, had promising moments during his 208 Premier League minutes the previous year. But Everton’s other summer acquisition, number nine, underperformed and may potentially leave the team less than a year after signing.

The Everton striker may depart from the team

The guy in question is Beto, a striker who is 26 years old. He spent £25.75 million to join the team from Udinese last summer, but he did not immediately make an impact. He might, however, leave this summer following a challenging debut campaign on Merseyside.

The Turkish news source Fotomac claims that Fenerbache is interested in bringing Beto on board for the upcoming summer. The Turkish powerhouses, currently led by the renowned Jose Mourinho, have been in negotiations with Everton regarding a possible trade, and the Portuguese manager has given his approval.

The report states that Everton would demand a minimum of £16.9 million for the striker. But considering that they actually spent about £10 million more, it’s possible that they charge more than £25 million to offset any possible losses. With three years remaining on his contract, they are more than welcome to charge that amount.

Beto’s pay at Everton

It’s safe to say that neither Beto nor the team were completely satisfied with how his transfer to Everton turned out.In 30 Premier League games for the team, the 26-year-old scored just three goals; he also scored two goals in the Carabao Cup.

He has 960 minutes of top flight experience with the Toffees, but he only scores three goals every ten games on average. They started the previous season against Newcastle United in December. He had to wait until March to score again, though, as he did it against West Ham and Bournemouth in just two more games.

Unexpectedly, Beto makes more money than a few of the biggest players for Everton. The 26-year-old striker makes more money every week—£50,000, to be exact—than important defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who makes £35,000, according to Capology. With 35 appearances in the Premier League last season, Branthwaite was a key member of the Toffees’ offensive line. In addition, Young is paid less than the former Udinese player; the Everton defender makes only £40,000 a week.

Furthermore, Beto makes less money than important players like Dwight McNeil and James Garner. The former Manchester United youth players make £30k and £25k a week, respectively, which may come as a surprise for two players who are so important to Sean Dyche’s team.

Stats from Capology

It could well be the case that Everton decide to move Beto on during the summer transfer window. There are few complaints to be made, given his performances have been below par and he has struggled to find the back of the net.

Considering Everton’s issues with financial fair play, and Beto’s fairly sizeable wages, it could be a deal the Toffees do and look to reinvest in a new striker for next season as they look to survive another season in the Premier League.
