Kalvin Phillips will likely be the last Everton signing of the transfer window if they successfully secure a move for the Manchester City man, the Liverpool Echo reports.
According to the paper’s website on 14 August the midfielder has been admired by Sean Dyche since before he made a £42million move from Leeds United to the Etihad and thinks he can help the Englishman revive his career.
City are now prepared to sanction another loan after letting him leave for an unsuccessful time at West Ham last term, but if he does end up at Goodison Park he is tipped to be the sixth and final arrival unless funds are generated by further sales.
Recent links to Barcelona forward Vitor Roque have been dismissed as the Toffees supposedly have “no interest” in the Brazilian.
Sean Dyche in pursuit of former Leeds United favourite at Everton
On paper it would have to go down as a successful window for Dyche and Kevin Thelwell if they can cap it off with a move for Phillips.
The England international has lost his way since leaving Elland Road but if he is going to regain his form anywhere Everton seems a fair choice.
He would surely know he is valued if the manager has been watching him for more than two years already, and Dyche thinks the club’s proximity to the 28-year-old’s Leeds home will also help [Mirror, 28 May].
Former Whites partner Jack Harrison is already at Goodison Park on loan, which might be a selling point as well.
Six signings would be a decent haul in light of the slog experienced through recent windows, and if Jarrad Branthwaite stays that would probably top them all.
Should Phillips be the last signing of the summer it would surely mean Dominic Calvert-Lewin has stayed.
A striker will be needed if a late offer comes in for the number nine, but it doesn’t look like Roque would be the man.
In other Everton news, a newly-minted club has appeared as a suitor for an exit-linked Toffees ace.
