DALLAS – After being released from his professional tryout contract with the Stars on October 8, defenseman Jordie Benn has signed a one-year contract with Swedish club Brynäs IF in the HockeyAllsvenskan.

Benn, 36, was hoping to secure a roster spot in the Lone Star State and play alongside his brother, captain Jamie Benn, but things didn’t work out given the backlog on the blue line.

During training camp, Benn shared his love for the city of Dallas in an interview with THN.

The Victoria, BC native has 607 games of NHL experience over 12 seasons between Dallas, Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Minnesota and Toronto.

The undrafted rearguard split time between the Maple Leafs and the AHL’s Toronto Marlies last year.
