Derby County must land ‘exceptional’ gem after turning down PL deal, he’d cost next to nothing – opinion

Derby County might snag a ‘exceptional’ teenager for close to nothing following an update coming out of Manchester United.

Following promotion back to the Championship, Derby need to add sheer numbers to their lineup.

In a perfect world, Paul Warne would have loved to preserve the nucleus of their promotion-winning group but with the departures of six first-team players, the Rams coach needs upgrades in every position.

Describing the Championship as the toughest he’s seen it in years, Warne needs quality reinforcements, particularly in attack.

Derby scored the joint-fewest goals of sides that finished in the play-offs (77) and with only James Collins and Conor Washington as genuine attacking options, their troubles in the Championship would be magnified.

It’s no surprise they’re seeking for attacking players in the window, and they should take one promising kid from Manchester United.

Omari Forson of Manchester United in action during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal FC at Old Trafford on May 12, 202...

Omari Forson made his Manchester United debut against Wolves in February, coming off the bench to assist Kobbie Mainoo for his match-winning goal.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old is expected to depart the club as a free agent in June after failing to agree on a new deal.

The world appeared as though it was the teenager’s oyster, but only four months on from that day, Forson might be on his way out of Old Trafford.

It’s huge news since academy director Nick Cox noted Forson showed “exceptional resilience” during his path towards the first squad, evincing that he isn’t simply good with the ball at his feet.

Omari Forson would fix one issue for Derby County

Warne has touched on that he wants extra pace and athleticism, especially in the last third, with Forson bringing that in abundance.

Capable of playing on both flanks or centrally, the teenager combines blazing pace, upper body strength and power to dance past his opponents.

At times last season, Derby frequently lacked the flair and finesse to open defences but Forson’s unpredictability would ensure that wouldn’t be an issue.

In the Championship, the Rams will receive fewer opportunities to score and playing the teenager centrally or down the flank would make them a much larger danger.

The 2004-born striker has also garnered amazing acclaim from ex-Derby star Tom Huddlestone, who has compared him to Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.

Speaking to SPORTbible, Huddlestone said: “He reminds me of the way Bukayo Saka plays.

“He’s good with both feet and can finish very well, especially with his left foot.”

This is significant praise from the 37-year-old considering Saka is undoubtedly one of the finest teenagers on the globe, so a lot is expected of Forson.

It’s a tremendous shock to many that he might be departing Old Trafford early, but United’s loss would be another teams gain this summer.
