8-figure Rangers transfer exit on cards as senior ace wanted in Saudi & Europe – report

In addition to the Greek team PAOK’s previously reported interest, French and Spanish clubs have now “registered their interest” in a deal for the Nigerian striker, according to a reporter for the Rangers Review who posted on the outlet’s website on July 3. The striker was signed from Cremonese last summer for £4.5 million.

Additionally, as the competition intensifies for an Ibrox departure, the 29-year-old’s circumstances are being “closely monitored” in Saudi Arabia.

During his first season at Glasgow, Dessers scored 22 goals, but he also faced criticism for his play.

After just one season, the Rangers will sell Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers.

The fact that Michael Beale is no longer at Ibrox and Philippe Clement is trying to do the same thing a year later shows how successful his transfer revamp was a year ago.

The Belgian might have benefited more from several of his predecessor’s acquisitions, Dessers most obviously among them given that he was forced to play as the only central striker for a significant portion of the season owing to injuries.

In the end, his goal return made his signing a qualified success—especially when contrasted with the poor decision to sign Sam Lammers in the same window.

The latter is anticipated to be sold this summer [Rangers Review, 29 May], with Hamza Igamane arriving as a new striker [TEAMtalk, 2 July]. The latter recovered while on loan in the Eredivisie.

While there is a good case to be made for keeping Dessers at Ibrox, as well as a second or third choice option, it seems that Clement is prepared to cash in and sign his own players given the increased demand for his services.

The Scottish Daily Mail reported on June 1st that although the Gers are partial to Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski and Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland, they have issues with both agreements.

However, if Dessers is sold, the only players remaining as the strike force would be Danilo, who is making a comeback from a long-term injury, and the unproven Igamane, so a big signing would undoubtedly be anticipated.

In other Rangers news, other clubs are now interested in a deal, thus the Light Blues are thinking about moving on for another goalie.
