Copa America midfielder’s transfer on after agency made Rangers move claim

If Rangers signed every player that they are associated with this summer, the team would be greater than any that Dick Advocaat had during his spell as manager.

Five players have left, but, there is still a lot of dead wood that needs to be taken out too and an exodus into double figures is likely.

Jose Cordoba has signed for Norwich City after seemingly arranging a deal to Rangers and another, who was linked with a trade to Ibrox, has determined their future too.

Rangers miss out on Andres Montano as he makes Mexico move

According to Fox Sports, Andres Montano has signed for Cruz Azul.

The Mexico international, who has made the Copa America roster, is staying in his birthplace and playing for a club widely known to those who followed the careers of Pedro Caixhina and Carlos Pena when they left Rangers.

It was a shortlived story, but it was one anchored in substance after Montano’s agent disclosed that Rangers was one of his client’s choice destinations with the ambition of one day making it to the promised land of the Premier League.

The SPFL isn’t for everyone but which is why Rangers are shopping in markets that don’t have a reputation for large transfer fees or expensive wages.

Rangers transfer target makes unexpected contract choice as Nils Koppen targets Ibrox return

With such a huge renovation required, Philippe Clement is fully aware of the hurdles that he has to overcome:

“We know we have less money than our competition because they have more money and they have Champions League money now. So, we need to be more innovative, the recruitment needs to be more inventive.

“If your opponent has more money and can spend more you have to work better. That needs to be the challenge to make things better. We have to locate better players for cheaper fees.

“It’s not always the player that costs more who at the end has the highest value.”

Nils Koppen, the man who never sleeps

What is encouraging is that Nils Koppen is doing the hard yards and building up the plane miles attempting to get agreements done.

In Mexico for the latest TransferRoom conference, he has reportedly seen the clubs and agents of both Damian Garcia and Albion Rrahmani as he aims to construct a squad capable of winning the Scottish Premiership title.

Montano always seemed like a nice to have rather than a must have type of player.

Rangers now have plenty of box-to-box midfielders and the priority has to be someone like Damian Garcia – a defensive midfielder to replace John Lundstram and Ryan Jack.

It’s going to be a long summer.
