Chris Sutton predicts Nottingham Forest’s trip to ‘brilliant’ Southampton after defender transfer

The former Aston Villa, Norwich and Chelsea striker has given an interesting take on both sides ahead of the clash this weekend

Chris Sutton has given his prediction ahead of the weekend's fixture

Prior to Nottingham Forest’s trip to St Mary’s this Saturday (3 pm) to play Southampton, Chris Sutton has made his prediction.

The former Premier League striker is betting on the Reds to win 0-1 this weekend on the south coast. He said as much in his weekly column for BBC Sport: “Southampton were outstanding at Newcastle.” If there was one criticism of them, it would be that when Newcastle was reduced to 10 men, they didn’t really generate enough. Southampton earned something for their efforts. Danilo had a terrible injury from Forest, which is a huge setback to them. However, I’m going to choose Forest.Last weekend, Forest opened their Premier League campaign at the City Ground with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. However, Forest could have won all three points as they led for nearly an hour before Antoine Semenyo equalised six minutes before halftime. They will be strengthened by the addition of Alex Moreno, an Aston Villa loanee, who arrived on Wednesday. Moreno may start the game, but he is anticipated to be included in the travelling team. The fact that Forest has not lost in their last six away games against Southampton (at The Dell or St Mary’s) should give Reds fans hope.

In their first matchback in the top division following their 2023 relegation, Southampton displayed promise. However, after Fabian Schar was sent off, Newcastle United was down to 10 players, making it difficult to convert scoring opportunities. Despite enjoying 78% of the possession and four shots on goal, the Saints were unable to make the Magpies pay.
