Chris Sutton admitted he is “worried” for Rangers after a “total demolition” from Celtic in the Old Firm derby on Sunday (1 September). Daizden Maida, Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor were on target as the Bhoys steamrollered the Gers 3-0 at Parkhead. Former Celtic striker and now prominent Sky Sports pundit Sutton wasted no time in sticking the boot in with his assessment He posted: “Celtic outstanding. McGregor ran the show once again. Kyogo sensational “Rangers were lucky it was only 3. A total demolition. I’m worried for Rangers…” Chris Sutton rubs salt in Rangers wounds after Celtic humiliation It really rankles that Sutton stuck the knife in so quick after the full-time whistle was blown after an abysmal afternoon for Rangers at Parkhead. What rankles even more is that he is hardly wrong in his assessment. It was an appalling result, an appalling performance, an appalling tactical display by Philippe Clement.
Shoddy defending, limp in attack, a midfield that might as well have stayed home as turned up and put in that utter abject performance. Everything was disjointed, everything was laboured, everything was just so far below the level of what is expected of a Rangers team. Annoyingly, Sutton has called this one bang on and it is a truly troubling prospect that the Light Blues are already five points adrift in the Scottish Premiership race. Because, on this evidence, you might as well already hand out the trophy already. Truly a day to forget for everyone involved at the club. A huge reaction is now needed.
