Southampton promoted Mark Bitcon to Head of Football Operations after Jason Wilcox left to join Manchester United in April.
After serving as Head of Athletic Performance and Innovation at the RFU, Bitcon joined the Saints in September 2023 as Director of Performance. He worked with a variety of Sport Republic clubs in that role, including Goztepe in Turkey and Valenciennes in France, and he has carried over that work into his new role.
After Wilcox departed Southampton in April to take a position as Technical Director at Manchester United, Bitcon, Head Coach Russell Martin, Head of Recruitment Darren Mowbray, and Chief Executive Phil Parsons took over as Wilcox’s deputy at Southampton.
Rasmus Ankersen, the co-founder and CEO of Sport Republic, the owners of Southampton, and a former co-director of football at Brentford, has also contributed a lot.
“It’s the ability to share and collaborate that is our real strength and I think we do that better than other multi-club models, if I’m being honest,” Bitcon stated during the club’s most recent Fans’ Forum. I believe there is a shared humility within the group.
Additionally, Rasmus Ankersen, who has achieved great success in his field, collaborates with all of us either daily or weekly. Every week, Russell and I talk with the coaches and sporting directors of our affiliated teams.
