The striker’s return to Birmingham City this summer is much anticipated.

According to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Blackburn Rovers are interested in Fulham’s Jay Stansfield, a target for Birmingham City. After Sammie Szmodics left to join Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town, John Eustace’s team is interested in signing the striker.

After being demoted to League One this summer, the Blues hope to entice the attacker back to the Midlands on a permanent basis. Teams in the Championship, however, compete against them.

Birmingham City target eyed by new club amid QPR, Hull City and Stoke City interest

This transfer window, the England youth international has been connected to several teams. In May, the Evening Standard said that QPR liked him, Football Insider said Stoke City wanted him, and HullLive said Hull City thought highly of him.

In May, Fulham manager Marco Silva declared, “He’s going to be back with us.” With the exception of Birmingham’s group goal, which we did not want, everything we had planned was a box that was checked.

It was satisfying to see him make progress in the Championship and contribute significantly to the offensive line after playing in League One the previous season with Exeter City. Jay accomplished all that mattered. This is his chance to return and be a member of our offensive line for the upcoming campaign.

Stansfield moved to Craven Cottage in 2019 after working his way up at Exeter City. A year ago, he was loaned back to the Grecians prior to moving to Birmingham.

Whether the Blues are able to get the player back together is a matter of time. Having severed connections with star player Szmodics, Blackburn is the most recent squad to join the race and is in search of new players.

Under former Birmingham boss Eustace, Rovers remained up late on the last day of the previous term. Their current point total is four, having drawn this weekend at Norwich City.
