In an effort to move Emmanuel Longelo and Juninho Bacuna on, Birmingham City manager Chris Davies stated that he hopes to find resolutions to both problems before the end of the transfer window.
There will always be some casualties when there is a major squad-wide change like the one that St Andrew’s has undergone this summer.
Birmingham has made plus four net transfers so far this window. While it isn’t terrible, they still ought to release some players from the team who won’t be playing; this is what they are attempting to do with Longelo and Bacuna.
Both players have had offers accepted by the club; Barnsley is vying for the former, while Birmingham Live reports that two teams—Sivaspor of Turkey and Al-Wehda of Saudi Arabia—are vying for the latter.
Davies stated, “They are [close to leaving],” to Birmingham Live at the time. They are leaving, however I’m not sure what the exact circumstances are at this moment.”
Despite the fact that the club reached an agreement on these deals about a month ago, both players are still with the City team as they get ready to play Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
Chris Davies’s expectations for Bacuna and Longelo
Before the end of the month, the Blues manager would like to see both players depart from the team.
He said, “They are still ongoing,” to the West Midlands publication. According to what I gather, both were on the verge of moving, but it never happened. With any luck, everything will be resolved in the next two weeks, allowing them to move on to other tasks.”
Although neither player has appeared in City’s opening two games of the season, Longelo did feature for the club’s under-21 squad on Tuesday in a 6-1 loss to Ipswich Town.
In case it wasn’t evident enough that he and Bacuna have no squad number attached to them, they have no future with Birmingham. Emil Hansson, a recent newcomer, has taken over the Curacao international’s previous number seven shirt.
The fate of Longelo and Bacuna will be largely determined over the next two weeks.
A football transfer involves much more than simply changing teams. The logistics of you and your family moving away from your current base of operations and all the additional responsibilities that come with any job shift, regardless of industry, are also often overlooked.
Of course, it makes perfect sense from a footballing standpoint for the two to advocate for leaving St Andrews. If they did nothing more than rot in the background, it would be terrible.
Longelo, 23, has two years remaining on his present contract; Bacuna, 27, just has one. The more experienced player of the two may afford to sit out this season and select a different team the next year. It’s not like the former West Ham United full-back has that option.
For Birmingham, recruiting more players before the transfer window ends is just as important as getting rid of these two and other players who will merely be a waste of money.
Whatever transpires between these two over the course of the upcoming two weeks will significantly change their direction in football.
