BREAKING NEWS: Aston Villa plot summer move for Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna

Villa are interested in recruiting the services of Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna this summer, according to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo.

Villa’s president of football operations Monchi is interested on reuniting with the 32-year-old and did attempt to sign him last summer, but the president of the La Liga club Jose Castro rejected the move.

The Villans will be participating in the Champions League next term after finishing in fourth place at the end of the last Premier League season, and manager Unai Emery wants to add quality and experience to his backline to increase his side’s chances of impressing at the elite Europe competition.

Lucas Digne was a strong option for Villa last season, weighing in with three assists and a goal in 33 league games, but they could do with another elite player in the position, and Acuna fits the description.

Despite being 32, the Argentina international left-back still has enough to give and has been picked up by his side for the 2024 edition of the Copa America tournament this summer.

The 2022 World Cup winner appeared in 25 games across all competitions in 2023-24 due to some injury concerns, assisting thrice and scoring once.

Sevilla could be very much open to selling Acuna in the coming months as his contract expires next summer, and a move to Villa and the Premier League could be intriguing to the South American again having expressed his disappointment at being barred from leaving last year.

Monchi is anticipated to renew interest in the Argentine this year, and his ability to play farther up the pitch is a feature Emery appreciates.

He is also impressive on set-pieces, and Villa will hope they can finally land him without any hindrances.
