MIDFIELDER Adam Lallana is “completely confident” that the Saints, should they return to the Premier League, can have a “great season.”

Lallana, 36, rejoined Southampton on a one-year contract after leaving Brighton, bringing experience to Martin’s team after the Championship was promoted.

Since departing St Mary’s in 2014, the former England international has made 291 appearances in the top division, including 68 while wearing a Saints shirt. He has also won the Premier League and Champions League.

The academy graduate said upon his return that he wanted to assist his new teammates in acclimating to life in the Premier League.

Lallana, who closely watched Southampton’s Championship season, thinks Martin should be credited with turning the team around.

“This time last year I met Prowsey (James Ward-Prowse) for coffee,” he said the club reporters. Prowsey knew the club had to sell him and that he might be heading out.

For a football team, losing a personality like that can be quite expensive.I believe that the core group of British players here and the loan additions that Russell and his colleagues brought in deserve recognition.

“When you’re new to a job, it’s not easy to accomplish that. In addition to working to achieve results and advance, he was attempting to cultivate relationships with every member of the backroom crew.

When asked if Martin’s manner of playing drew him in, Lallana said, “Of course it did.” Russell’s football team and I both adore playing and I love Russell’s style.

“Having been very experienced in the Premier League, I feel like I can help the football club adapt quickly to the level.”

According to Lallana, Saints don’t need to change their style of play in order to stay in the Premier League.

The former Liverpool player wants Southampton to improve upon their campaign-long performance. He acknowledges that many of his teammates will have to make swift adjustments, though.
