Andy Walker explains why Daniel Kelly leaving Celtic to join Millwall was the ‘right decision’

A large portion of the Celtic fan base was dissatisfied with Daniel Kelly’s summer transfer to Millwall from Celtic.

Even if Celtic paid £400,000 for a player they could have lost for nothing in December, it is still painful to see Kelly’s potential go to an English Championship team.

Kelly made his full debut last season, having broken into the Celtic matchday squad at the age of 18. The boy was demonstrating that the team had a good player in their youth ranks after scoring against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

But since Kelly’s contract was expiring, the kids had the upper hand. The Celtic academy graduate also declined a £5,000-a-week contract and chose to sign with Millwall last week, despite reports that he wanted to stay.

Andy Walker discussed the situation, saying that he believed Kelly made the right choice for the young midfielder by turning down Celtic for Millwall.

Walker stated, “I’m covering Hull and Millwall,” on The Go Radio Football Show. It appears that Millwall signed teenager Daniel Kelly from Celtic for a hefty £400,000 sum.

This, in my opinion, is just another instance of a young man who has chosen the proper choice.

“A young player finds it extremely tough to acquire a regular game, to advance, and to develop better at Celtic, Rangers, and, honestly, most Scottish football teams.
