The season is coming to a finish, and the former Swans captain is in form. He was crucial to Sydney’s victory over Essendon last Friday night, which all but guaranteed Sydney the minor premiership.
Parker, 31, was the subject of a story a few days prior to the game, which stated he was “open to exploring a move” to another team the next year.
In a radio interview last Friday, North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson even brought up Parker and players like Melbourne’s Jack Viney when talking about the kind of seasoned player the Kangaroos need to help develop their youthful roster.
Parker said he was only trying to add another championship to the one he won with the Swans in 2012 by concentrating on Sydney’s finals campaign.
“Right now, I’m just having fun playing,” Parker said to AAP.
“I started the year with a broken arm and was temporarily suspended. It has been a long year.”
“I’m just taking every opportunity I can at the moment and just enjoying my footy.”
Parker bluntly answered, “At the moment, I’m contracted, so we’ll see,” when asked if he will remain at the Swans the following season.
Parker committed to Sydney through the end of 2025 when he inked a four-year deal in 2021.
John Longmire, the coach of the Swans, was similarly not inclined to talk about the future of the three-time Bob Skilton medallist.
“Let us savor the present,” Longmire declared on Friday.
“Parker has been amazing the past few weeks; he has played brilliantly.
“I just like the way he’s used his forward craft, he’s done a great job the last couple of weeks.”
Parker missed the first seven games of the season due to an arm break he sustained during Sydney’s preseason victory over GWS.
When healthy, the midfield player was compelled to compete for the VFL team.
However, Parker missed further time due to a six-week suspension for bumping Josh Smith of Frankston.
Since making his senior team comeback for Sydney’s round-18 encounter against North Melbourne, he has played in every game, playing forward more and more.
“I was bit nowhere the first half (against Essendon), but got going in the second half and got on the end of a few, which was nice,” Parker stated.
“I’m working with a few young boys down there and trying to build the energy and have some fun.”
Parker has played 289 games for the Swans since making his debut in 2011, which ranks seventh in club history.
