Connor Barron Scotland twist as Rangers midfielder injury status clarified

Connor Barron’s failure to travel with the Scotland under-21s squad had earlier sparked fears over a possible injury.

The Rangers defender played the full 90 as the young Scots lost 2-0 to Belgium on Tuesday and they now move on to taking on Kazakhstan tomorrow night.

Barron is not with them and it was claimed by the Daily Record that was down to a “slight knock” and he had been withdrawn as a precaution.

With Gers set to face Kilmarnock on Rugby Park, that could have made the 22-year-old a doubt for the Premiership game.

However, it has now been confirmed that Barron has been called into the Scotland first team squad, joining John Souttar, for the Nations League match against Portugal tomorrow.

With Celtic winger James Forrest the latest in a line of withdrawals for Steve Clarke to deal with, the Rangers man has been drafted in as a replacement.

Barron was in the previous first team squad for the last camp but with the 21s facing important Euros qualifiers this time, had initially been left with them but could now win his first senior cap.

With the reasons for his failure to travel now clear, it looks like he will be fit to travel to Killie given he comes through tomorrow unscathed.
