The Scotland striker who the Dark Blues star called for guidance on moving north is also mentioned, along with his acquaintance with Billy Koumetio.
In the few time he has been at Dens Park, Dundee new guy Ziyad Larkeche has already experienced one amusing instance of mistranslation.
On his home debut against the Hearts last Saturday, the 21-year-old didn’t require the stretcher, but he still received one.
He clarified, “I think it’s quite a funny story, you know.”
“Perhaps the confusion stems from the Scottish accent.
I asked the man if he could stretch me because I had been experiencing cramps for a while.
He was aware of my desire to use the stretcher.
“There was a small misunderstanding. “What are you doing?” I said after noticing the stretcher.
“I had to watch the game on TV after that since I was unable to return to watch it.
But I’m all right. It was merely a cramp.
But the appearance of an old French friend has made the rest of his fitting in easier.
Billy Koumetio, a Liverpool player, has joined Larkeche on the Dark Blues team.
Koumetio and Larkeche played together for the France U/20s and have a long history of playing youth football in their native country.
“When we were younger, we played some games together for the national team,” he remarked.
“We played against each other because I was at PSG and he was at Lyon.
“We actually spent more time together while we were on the national team.
Naturally, it was a wonderful thing that he had also come here. It was fortunate that we were discussing the moves before we both arrived.
Prior to their League Cup match against Airdrieonians on Saturday, both players were in the media spotlight and were not above making light of one another.
It was evident that the bond was strong.
However, Larkeche made sure to use some of his other connections to complete his homework on Dundee.
The left-back sought the counsel of a Scotland striker at parent club QPR and is acquainted with former Dee loan striker Amadou Bakayoko, who had nothing but positive things to say about the Dark Blues.
“I talked to Luke McCowan.” He and I had a conversation, and I knew Bakayoko from last season. Luke was presented to me by him,” Larkeche said.
I had a conversation with Lyndon Dykes at QPR. Jimmy Dunne, a former Hearts player, and I also chatted.
“They informed me about the league, the caliber of play, the ferocity, and everything else.” The talks were all wonderful experiences.
Immediately after joining the team, Larkeche was put under pressure in a Dundee derby, and he has started the two games since then.
Regarding the derby, the Frenchman remarked, “It was the first time my dad and my brother were in the stadium.”
