Ipswich Town: Players who were once players but are now free agents

Due to his contract expiring, the 29-year-old midfielder left Ipswich this summer. After consecutive promotions, he had a supporting role in both of them.

In an exclusive interview, he discussed his memories of his time at Portman Road with the EADT and the Ipswich Star.

 

The 25-year-old winger, who joined SV Wehen Wiesbaden from Darmstadt 98 last summer, has parted ways with his most recent German team.

Bennetts played in their relegation play-off matches against Jagn Regensburg, but he was unable to keep them from falling to the third division. Having played in Germany since 2018, he could decide to stay there.

The 28-year-old attacker, who signed a free transfer from Charlton Athletic last summer, is now without a club after being let go by Gillingham, a League Two team.

Bonne played for the Gills for 31 games, scoring five goals, before playing the second half of the previous campaign on loan at League One Cambridge United. In 16 games with the U’s, he scored one goal.

After departing Icelandic side ÍBV at the beginning of 2024, the 35-year-old midfielder has been without a club. Hermann Hreidarsson, a former Town fan favorite, oversaw him there.

Although Bru has returned to France and begun working as a coach at Paris FC, he still wishes to play. In a recent interview, he shared his thoughts with us.

Carayol helped the Brewers stay in League One both seasons by playing 62 games and scoring three goals. It appears like he will keep playing.

The 24-year-old midfielder’s contract with Burton Albion was recently ended by mutual consent. The previous season, he appeared in 34 games for the Brewers.

After coming from Ipswich last summer, Harper never really seemed to fit in at the Pirelli Stadium, and he will be searching for a new team to help him kickstart his career.

 

The 28-year-old forward, who left Cheltenham Town, is currently a free agent. He is another player who was demoted during the previous campaign.

After finishing 21st in the standings, Harrop signed a contract with the Robins in January that would last until the end of the season, but he was unable to stop the team’s relegation to League Two.

After spending two seasons at Carlisle United, where he made over 50 appearances for the Cumbrians, the Czech goalkeeper is searching for a new team.

Holy lost his spot last season when they were sent back to the fourth division, despite having assisted them in winning promotion to League One in 2022–2023.

 

The 23-year-old forward’s contract expired, therefore he departed Arsenal. Although he joined the team at age eight, he was never a senior member.

Due to quad and hamstring issues, John-Jules only made 14 appearances across all competitions during his League One loan at Derby County in 2023–2024, as the Rams earned automatic promotion back to the Championship.

 

The Irishman, who joined Woking in the National League in March, is currently searching for his next club.

With injuries, Judge has had a difficult few years. While playing for Colchester United in December 2022, he had a triple rupture to his left knee, which required surgery to correct in March of last year. It appears that he will pursue his career.

JONAS KNUDSEN

Career in town: 2015–2019

Since the beginning of the year, the Danish full-back has been without a club since his contract with Swedish champions Malmo expired in January.

There, Knudsen won three league crowns as well as a domestic cup, but in the summer of 2021, he sustained a cruciate ligament injury. Since then, he has fully recovered his fitness.

FRREDDIE LADAPO

Career in town: 2022–2024

75 appearancesObjectives: 25

On deadline day, the 31-year-old forward left Portman Road by mutual consent in order to join a new team.

Ladapo played 14 games on loan at League One Charlton at the conclusion of the previous season, scoring one goal. Rumors have said that he may be joining Bolton.

JAKE LIVERMORE

Career at Town: 2010–2011 (while on loan from Spurs)

The 34-year-old midfielder, who joined Watford on a free transfer from West Brom last summer, departed the Championship team after just one season at Vicarage Road.

For the Hornets past season, Livermore made 32 appearances and scored three goals.

Jon Nolan

Career in town: 2018–2022

Number of appearances: 70Objectives: 10

Under Paul Hurst, the 32-year-old midfielder went on trial at his previous team, Shrewsbury Town, this summer to demonstrate his fitness, but he was not given a contract offer.

Nolan played in the Northern Premier League with Macclesfield the previous season, but he failed to get playing time and lost interest in the sport.

MATTY PENNEY

Career in town: 2021–2023

The 26-year-old full-back hasn’t been with a team since the Blues cut him go in the summer.

During the 2022–2023 season, Penney went on loan to Charlton Athletic and Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership; he hasn’t played for another team since.

VESELI, FREDDIE

Career in town: 2013–2015

Manifestations: 1

The 31-year-old defender, who was relegated from the top division at Turkish team Fatih Karagümrük last season, is currently searching for his next club.

Veseli spent time in Switzerland, France, and Italy before departing the Blues in the summer of 2016 to join Port Vale.

Young Kane Vincent

Career in town: 2019–2023

The 28-year-old full-back is still at Adams Park to complete his recovery even though Wycombe Wanderers discharged him at the end of his contract.

Vincent-Young played in 21 games for the Chairboys in all competitions the previous season, but he hasn’t played since February.

MARTYN WAGHORN

Career in town: 2017–2018

The attacker, 34, is currently searching for a new team after his second stint with Derby came to an end.

After being released by Coventry City, Waghorn returned to the Rams in the summer of last year. He scored seven goals in 27 appearances, helping Paul Warne’s team earn immediate promotion back to the Championship.

CONNOR WICKHAM

Career in town: 2006–2011

After joining Nathan Jones’ team in March, the 31-year-old attacker completed his most recent short-term deal with Charlton Athletic and is now once again searching for a new team.

In four League One outings with the Addicks, Wickham scored once. He left Crystal Palace in 2021 and has since played for five different teams.

BRANDON Williams

Career in town: 2023–2024 (while on loan from Man United)

17 appearancesObjectives: 2

The 24-year-old full-back, who spent the previous season on loan at Town, was let go by Man United this summer.

Williams returned to Old Trafford for an evaluation in December, which was his last game for the Blues.
