Pierce Charles, the goalkeeper for Sheffield Wednesday, was put to the test harshly by the England U21 team.
With Danny Rohl’s squad losing three straight games in the Championship and failing to score a goal in any of them, the international break for Sheffield Wednesday arrived at the ideal time for the Owls.

Beadle surprisingly received a call-up to practice with the senior England squad during the week, but he was benched for the U21 team’s match against Northern Ireland in favor of the Owls goalie.
But young Owls goalie Charles from Northern Ireland played the entire ninety minutes, and he had a fantastic performance.

When can Pierce Charles be ready for the first team?
The young goalie performed admirably and displayed genuine signs of a goalkeeper developing at an early age. His 8.1 game rating, on par with Manchester City’s James McAtee and England’s Jack Nicholson, belied his lackluster performance when it came to playing out from the back.
This was a weak point at times during the EFL Cup match against Hull City, as he appeared to be unconfident when the ball was in his possession. Nevertheless, aging will undoubtedly cause that to change.
Charles has looked quite well for his age, and although if it’s unlikely that he would surpass Beadle in the hierarchy, he will undoubtedly be a possibility to start for the Owls in goal starting in the upcoming season.
