In the end, the Reds added 11 players, two of whom, David Carmo and Marko Stamenic, immediately signed with Olympiacos.
In a desperate attempt to add a striker, Forest prioritised signing Santiago Gimenez, while Eddie Nketiah and Omar Marmoush were also on the team’s radar.
Ultimately, though, just two new players were added on deadline day: Morato and James Ward-Prowse. No striker was signed.
Nuno Espirito Santo informed Evangelos Marinakis that Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood were now Forest’s two attacking options, hence he didn’t think the team sorely needed a striker.
Anthony Elanga was the target of a late attempt by Newcastle to sign him, but Forest turned down their offer.
The Reds had another player lined up in case Elanga left, even if the Magpies did include Forest in the deal by offering Miguel Almiron.
On the day of deadliness, Nottingham Forest and Ernest Nuamah accepted terms.
On deadline day, the Reds reportedly arranged a deal for the Ghanaian international but put it on hold, according to The Athletic.
Newcastle was linked to Elanga, and Forest wasn’t sure if the Magpies would make an offer that was too good to turn down.
Forest was prepared to transfer to the City Ground if given the all-clear, having already reached a personal agreement with Nuamah.
That never materialised, though, as Newcastle decided not to press Elanga and Evangelos Marinakis, who were standing hard in the Forest corner.
Nuamah, who is a young player at Lyon, will apparently stay there until January at the latest.
The 20-year-old has received accolades in the past, and when he first came onto the scene, Laurent Blanc referred to him as “explosive.”
Nuamah ought to stay on Forest’s list.
It is evident that Forest loves Nuamah as a player even though the team decided not to sign him during the most recent transfer window.
In the event that Elanga left, they had a deal ready for him, and he will probably stay on the club’s shortlist moving forward.
While on loan at Nordsjaelland and Lyon last season, he recorded three assists in addition to seven goals.
Despite his youth, he has already scored three goals in 12 games for the Ghana national team, where he typically plays on the right side.
Although Nuamah’s transfer to the Premier League was not approved by Forest during the summer transfer window, this is something that Forest may want to take into consideration in the future.
