Burnley and Millwall have reached an agreement for Zian Flemming.
The Clarets had expressed interest in signing the attacker, who was born in Amsterdam, back when they were first promoted to the Premier League. After making several unsuccessful approaches for Flemming, Burnley moved on to other targets.
But following a further effort to sign him earlier today, Turf Moor has officially made the 26-year-old theirs.
Burnley received many rejections from Millwall before agreeing to a loan that included a purchase obligation. The South London Press has learned that the former Ajax player is valued at more than £7 million; the Championship team was able to successfully negotiate a sell-on clause for Fortuna Sellard last summer. No fee has been made public for the player.
Flemming’s Den contract was set to expire at the end of June, with a 12-month club option.
However, there was a growing sense at the end of the previous season that the number 10 was prepared for a fresh challenge. San Jose Earthquake, an MLS team, also indicated interest.
Flemming had a 15-goal season in his debut season with the Lions, but the subsequent campaign was more difficult for him and the team. His shot count during his debut season with the Den group had been one of its highlights. Despite a significant decline in performance the previous season, he was still their top scorer with eight goals.
Flemming stated on the Burnley website that “being here feels surreal.” I really wanted to get here when I first heard about it yesterday morning since it occurred so rapidly.
“I want to play in the Premier League for a Premier League team, and we can achieve that goal at the club with the goals and aspirations we have set forth.”
