West Brom are looking into the potential of re-signing Celtic’s Mikey Johnston permanently, and a £6m price tag has been set, as per Football Insider.
West Brom signed winger Johnston on loan in the January transfer window, bringing him in from Scottish giants Celtic on a deal for the remainder of the season.
The Irishman had struggled for minutes in the Scottish Premiership, but he quickly became a firm favourite at The Hawthorns and placed himself among the Championship’s most dangerous wingers.
Johnston got seven goals and two assists in 20 outings for the Baggies.
Now, though, with the season done, the 25-year-old heads up north to Scotland. However, West Brom are looking into the potential of bringing Johnston back to the club, it has been revealed.
Football Insider reports that the Baggies are mulling launching a move for the 10-time Republic of Ireland international, but Celtic have placed a £6m price tag. They could possibly make another loan move for Johnston.
Before West Brom can make signings, they need to decrease their salary expenditures. That means sales may possibly come before new hires.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not West Brom make a play to get Johnston back.
However, if he was to connect up with Carlos Corberan and co once more, it would undoubtedly be appreciated among the club’s faithful supporters.
Johnston was a key influence as the Baggies made it to the play-offs in the 2023/24 season. His explosive play out wide caused issues for countless Championship full-backs and some of the goals he scored coming in from the left-hand side will be fondly remembered by supporters.
The aim will be that he can add to it if he does return. Johnston has now demonstrated just what he can do with consistent minutes having struggled for action at Celtic, so he’ll be determined to go on from here.
