Celtics Make Jay Scrubb Cut as Season Nears

On Tuesday, the Celtics inked Jay Scrubb to an Exhibit 10 contract. The six-foot-five guard’s impressive performance at Summer League in 2023 won him a two-way contract with Boston in the previous offseason. In each game while in Las Vegas, Scrubb averaged 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks.

While playing for the C’s in Sin City, he also made 4.0 three-pointers and shot 40% from beyond the arc. Regretfully, just before the 2023–24 campaign started, he tore his right ACL during practice. The 24 year old Scrubb is back in the lineup and fully healthy, thus the defending NBA champs had to make a matching cut.

The Celtics had a 21-player roster, playing at the offseason maximum. The decision to waive Tristan Enaruna was made, according to the NBA’s official transactions page. Enaruna was signed by Boston to an Exhibit 10 contract following the NBA Draft this year.

The six-foot-eight wing averaged 19.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 35 games for Cleveland State in the previous season. In his fifth and last collegiate season, he shot 32.2 percent from outside the arc and 49.8 percent from the field. Enaruna participated in just three Summer League games for Boston. Nonetheless, he made an impression with his play on defense.

The 23-year-old showed off valuable skills and made life difficult for his opponents by utilizing his length and cleverness. Enaruna was dismissed by the Celtics, but he might end up playing for their G League affiliate in Maine this year.
