BA since he joined the league in 2017. Tatum has received six All-Star selections, participated in two NBA Finals and won the 2024 NBA championship across his eight NBA seasons.
If Tatum continues his impressive career, he is likely to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame after he retires. Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic recently published a list of current NBA players who are strong candidates for the Hall of Fame, and he considers Tatum a near lock.
Tatum now has team success (the 2024 NBA title) to go with four First Team All-NBA selections and four consecutive top-six MVP finishes,” Vorkunov wrote Friday. “He’ll probably miss the whole 2025-26 season, and time will tell if his Achilles tear this spring is an inflection point in his career, but Tatum’s Hall of Fame probability score puts him smack dab between Cliff Hagan (HOF class of 1978) and Bobby Wanzer (HOF class of 1987).”
Tatum is still relatively young and will turn 28 next March. If he recovers smoothly from his Achilles tear, he should return to his elite level of play.
This year’s Celtics season may have some disappointment since Tatum is unlikely to play. However, he should be ready to go by the start of the 2026-27 season.
With Tatum out, another possible future Hall of Fame guard, Jaylen Brown, will have to step up his game to get Boston in playoff contention.
