After earlier interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, Premier League newcomers Southampton are optimistic that they can finalize a possible £10 million deal for Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow before the weekend.
Three more important players could be leaving the Netherlands for England, as Feyenoord must now deal with the loss of Mats Wieffer and Yankuba Minteh, who both departed De Kuip for Brighton and Hove Albion.
There are talks for Nottingham Forest to sign Santiago Gimenez. Although Forest’s initial £21 million proposal was turned down, negotiations are still underway over a transfer to the City Ground. The Mexico international scored 26 goals for the Rotterdam giants previous season.
Meanwhile, talks have taken place between Aston Villa and Lutsharel Geertruida’s team.
Additionally, HITC can reveal that goalie Justin Bijlow may sign a contract with Southampton in the coming days.
Justin Bijlow, goalkeeper for Feyenoord, moves to Southampton
The Saints have made a £10 million bid and started negotiations. The team led by Russell Martin is optimistic that Bijlow may be acquired before they play Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Despite Fabian Schar’s early red card, Southampton lost 1-0 against Newcastle United in their season opener.
The error that allowed Joelinton to win was caused by seasoned gloveman Alex McCarthy, and Bijlow’s entry may signal the end of McCarthy’s tenure as Martin’s first option in the net.
